Monday Musings: Preparing for Goals & Change in the New Year

There’s something about the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, isn’t there? Time feels…weird. Half of us don’t know what day it is, and the other half are either furiously meal-prepping for 2025 or still working through the last box of holiday cookies (hi, it’s me). It’s like the world is collectively caught in a pause—reflecting, dreaming, and wondering what’s next.

It’s also prime time for goal-setting and change.

Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Another ‘New Year, New Me’ pep talk?” I get it. The internet is buzzing with resolutions, planners, and productivity hacks, and it can feel overwhelming. But today, I want to slow it down and talk about something that’s been on my heart: embracing change, setting goals with intention, and leaving space for the unexpected.

Step 1: Reflect on Where You’ve Been

Before you start dreaming of 2025, take a moment to look back. What did this year teach you? Where did you surprise yourself? Maybe it wasn’t the year you expected—maybe it was even harder than you’d hoped—but I bet you learned something.

For me, this past year has been full of shifts. Some I planned for, and some I didn’t see coming. And while I’m not quite ready to spill all the details (stay tuned for that!), let’s just say it’s been a season of growth.

Take a second to jot down your wins and lessons from the past year. Yes, all of them—even the ones that don’t seem big. If you want some guidance, I love the 5 minute journal from Intelligent Change

Step 2: Dream Big, But Start Small

I’m a firm believer that goals are meant to excite you, not exhaust you. It’s easy to get caught up in the “go big or go home” mindset—declaring that you’re going to run a marathon, launch a business, or finally get your inbox to zero. But here’s the secret: Big changes start with small steps.

For example:

•Want to get healthier? Start with a daily 10-minute walk or swapping one snack for something fresh.

•Dreaming of a new career? Dedicate 15 minutes each day to research or networking.

•Hoping to stay organized? Grab a tool like my new Laurel Denise Planner

Progress doesn’t have to be perfect to count. The most important thing is starting.

Step 3: Leave Space for Change

Here’s the thing about goals: Life happens. Plans shift. What you thought you wanted in January might not be what makes sense by June. And that’s okay!

One of the most freeing lessons I’ve learned is to make room for the unexpected. Be intentional about your goals, but don’t be afraid to pivot. Change isn’t failure—it’s growth in disguise.

Step 4: Build a Community Around Your Goals

Accountability changes everything. Whether you’re sharing your goals with a friend, a partner, or your online circle, having someone in your corner makes the journey feel less lonely.

Speaking of community—I’d love to hear what’s on your heart for 2025. Whether you’re setting big goals, embracing a quieter season, or simply focusing on staying present, let’s cheer each other on. Share your dreams in the comments, or let’s chat over on Instagram (@im_jayce)!

Step 5: Celebrate What’s Coming

New Year’s Eve is right there, waiting to usher in a fresh start. And while I’m feeling all the things—excited, nervous, reflective—I can’t help but think about how serendipitous it feels.

Big things are on the horizon, friends. Change is in the air, and I’m so grateful to be walking into this new chapter with all of you by my side.

So, let’s step into this week with open hearts and big dreams. Whether you’re setting resolutions or just soaking up the last days of 2024, know this: You are capable of so much more than you realize.

Here’s to embracing the messy, magical journey ahead.

With love,

Jayce
